Market Microstructure: Theory and Empirics
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper reviews the literature on market microstructure. Particular emphasis is given to the research dealing with the impact that a speci c trading mechanism might have on price behaviour and with the comparison of the performance of alternative market structures. Theoretical models and empirical studies investigating their implications are explored. The major statistical properties and reguliarities of microstructural data are discussed.

On the Correlation Structure of Microstructure Noise in Theory and Practice
We argue for incorporating the financial economics of market microstructure into the financial econometrics of asset return volatility estimation. In particular, we use market microstructure theory to derive the cross-correlation function between latent returns and market microstructure noise, which feature prominently in the recent volatility literature. The cross-correlation at zero displacem...
متن کاملMicrostructure Noise , Realized Variance , and Optimal Sampling ∗
Observed asset prices are known to deviate from their efficient values due to market microstructure frictions. This paper studies the effects of market microstructure noise on nonparametric estimates of the efficient price integrated variance. Specifically, we consider both asymptotic and finite sample effects of general market microstructure noise on realized variance estimates. The finite sam...

How do different exporters react to exchange rate changes? Theory, empirics and aggregate implications This paper analyzes the reaction of exporters to exchange rate changes. We present a model where, in the presence of distribution costs in the export market, high and low productivity firms react differently to a depreciation . Whereas high productivity firms optimally raise their markup rathe...
متن کاملInvestor Sentiment, Disagreement and Return Predictability of Ownership Breadth
We extend theories and empirics in Chen, Hong and Stein (2002) by allowing investors subject to market sentiment to hold a biased belief in aggregate. With a dynamic multiple-asset model, we show that the ownership breadth-return relationship can be either positive or negative depending on the relative strength of two offsetting forces: (1) variation in disagreement and (2) variation in sentime...
متن کاملMicrostructure Theory and the Foreign Exchange Market
GROWING BODY OF theoretical literature, known as the study of securities market microstructure, deals with the behavior of participants in securities markets and with the effects of information and institutional rules on the economic performance of those markets. These institutional factors may arise from technology, tradition or regulation. Microstructure and its impact are important, because ...
